This is a riparian planting and stewardship portfolio with TWO separate worksites along Skookum Creek or within the floodplain and adjacent riparian areas. Both properties are owned by the Squaxin Island Tribe and have received some of level riparian or stream restoration. Specific treatments for each work site will vary depending on the needs and level of prior treatments at each site, with each site to receive three years of planting maintenance following either new installations or stewardship plantings. At one of the sites (River Mile 6.5), a new riparian planting will be installed for the first time with the intent of converting open, grass and shrub dominated areas to riparian forest, and to improve conifer density in existing forest areas. At the remaining site (Skookum Ranch), stewardship activities will include replacing plants and increasing plant densities within prior planted areas and conducting maintenance. This project will benefit riparian habitat, in turn providing an ecological lift for stream functions and salmonids including coho and chum salmon.
