    Project Description    
The objective of the North Road Culvert project is to replace an existing 10 foot diameter partial fish passage barrier culvert with a bridge and natural stream channel to provide year-round passage to all fish species at all life stages. The goal of this action is to increase the spatial structure, abundance and productivity of listed Upper Columbia spring Chinook salmon and steelhead in the Wenatchee subbasin. Replacing the culvert with a bridge should also facilitate the natural function of sediment and wood transport through the system. The re-established migration corridor should benefit Chinook, steelhead, resident redband rainbow trout, and re-introduced coho.

This proposal is requesting matching funds for part of a large scale road project. The Chelan County Public Works Department is replacing the North Road Culvert over Chumstick Creek along with a portion of the North Road, from Chumstick Highway to Fox Road (MP 0.05 to MP 0.56). Only the goals, objectives and budget for the North Road Culvert are included in this proposal. The goals, objectives and costs for the rest of the road project are not included. Cost estimate for the road project (including the North Road Culvert): $2,521,063. North Road Culvert (without the road): $1,818,779.

The replacement bridge is currently being designed. All necessary permits should be secured by April 2009 and construction is planned during the 2009 Chumstick Creek in-stream work window.
