The lack of large coarse woody debris in the Klickitat River and its tributaries has been determined to be a major limiting factor. With the 1998 Bickleton fire retaining hundreds of acres of dead trees on private property, the Central Washington Conservation District made an agreement with a local logging company to harvest some of the trees (along with the root mass) and deliver them to a site on the Little Klickitat River for use in a number of proposed projects.
