    Project Description
The Squaxin Island Tribe proposes to purchase 309 acres in the Skookum Creek watershed to protect and enhance fish and wildlife species. This includes 117 acres of wetlands and over one and a half miles of Skookum Creek and tributaries. The parcels represent essentially one half of the last buildable land in the system subject to development pressure. The watershed is not highly developed and is rated as being high priority for protection and restoration. Skookum Creek supports healthy runs of fall chum, a declined but stable run of coho, an unknown population of ESA listed steelhead trout and an extremely strong run of cutthroat trout.
